Dallas Cowboys: Brandon Aubrey’s Story To The NFL Doesn’t Seem Real
Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

The Dallas Cowboys are coming off an abysmal performance against the Buffalo Bills, with some even calling the cowboys “mentally soft.” The Cowboys will look to bounce back this week and get themselves ready for a playoff push. However, one of the best stories of the NFL has gone a bit unnoticed with all the intense media coverage the Cowboys get.

Brandon Aubrey, the Cowboys Kicker has still been kicking perfectly, and has yet to miss a field goal during the entire season. With his kicking ability, the casual fan would think he was a stud kicker in college and was a high end pick in the draft being that Aubrey nailed two 59 yard field goals against the Philadelphia Eagles the week prior which has never happened before. This is the farthest thing from the truth however.

Brandon Aubrey Grew Up A Dallas Cowboys Fan And Now Is Making Huge Kicks For His Hometown Team

Brandon Aubrey Grew up in Texas and was a huge Dallas Cowboys fan. I’m sure he may be a bigger fan of them now. Instead of pursuing American Football however, Aubrey played Soccer growing up and in high school and was good enough to land a scholarship from Notre Dame. As a freshman, Aubrey won the national championship and went on to have an amazing career playing soccer for the school.

In his senior year he was voted all ACC and went on to be selected 17th overall in the MLS draft to Toronto. However, with all the hype, Aubrey was released after just one year with Toronto. After his release, Aubrey stopped playing soccer and started to work a 9-5 job as a software engineer that you can still see on his Linked in page.

On Sundays, Aubrey would watch the Cowboys, his favorite team, and all his friends would tell him he should be a kicker. Aubrey actually listened to his friends, and he started training three times a week after work to make his dream come true.

Brandon Aubrey Starts His Football Journey In The USFL

Brandon Aubrey trained hard and went on to play in the USFL for the Birmindham Stallions for two years. He caught the attention from NFL scouts and specifically Jerry Jones and was then drafted to the Cowboys. This year, he has still not missed a kick and has been nailing everything from 50 yards plus. As mentioned earlier, no kicker has ever made two 59 yard field goals in a game, and no kicker has ever had a start to their career as good as Aubrey’s has been.

The star kicker will for sure be an important factor come playoff time as many playoff games can be decided by field goals or even game winning or losing kicks. Aubrey’s story however shows all of us that it’s never too late to quit on your dream and that life is full of twist and turns. We can’t be afraid to make big chances and shoot for the moon. Aubrey could have easily continued to sit on his couch and watch the games with his friends, but he made a huge swing and now just might be the best kicker in the league.
