‘Locked in’ Adam Schefter loses his mind over Dan Orlovsky’s comment about Tee Higgins’ future

Dan Orlovsky and Adam Schefter had a standoff during the recent segment of ESPN’s NFL Live on Tee Higgins’ future with the Cincinnati Bengals.

The wide receiver will be playing his fifth year in the NFL under the franchise tag, hoping to bag a massive payday in the near future.

Schefter agreed that Higgins would eventually be paid a top dime, contrary to Orlovsky, who suggested that the 25-year-old was on thin ice. The veteran analyst claimed Higgins may make a ‘business decision.’

What happens in the middle of the season if and when his knee is creaky, his hamstring is tight, and his shoulder is sore? Is he playing through those injuries weeks before he becomes a free agent, or is he going to be making a business decision? Adam Schefter told Orlovsky

Schefter thought the former NFL quarterback would get the hint, but instead, he countered.

You think a team is going to randomly pay you if he's not healthy? Dan Orlovsky said
Absolutely, he's getting paid! Schefter could not believe his colleague’s reply and retorted

He further spoke about a former Buffalo Bills safety who had a rough time dealing with injuries. Even after becoming a free agent, he still secured a big salary elsewhere.

I'll go back to Jairus Byrd, a safety in Buffalo. He had all kinds of injury issues, became a free agent, and New Orleans made him the highest-paid safety in football. Schefter said

He emphatically announced that no matter what happens to Tee Higgins will get paid.

Will Tee Higgins receive a new contract?

Under the franchise tag, Higgins will earn $21.8 million for the 2024 season. However, given the wide restaurant market’s boom in the last few years, it’s no surprise that he would want a bit more.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler revealed that the Cincinnati Bengals haven’t shown any interest in giving Higgins a long-term deal or trading him to another NFL team. After the recent spree of signing contracts, the second-round pick remains the only tagged player to not receive a new extension.

Spotrac’s Michael Ginnitti revealed the Antoine Winfield Jr. new deal leaves Higgins dangling in the wilderness.

Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow wants to see his wide receiver partners remain in Cincinnati.

We are here to win football games. I really hope both [Tee Higgins and Ja'Marr Chase] of those guys are here next year because we are a better football team with both of them. They are both great locker room guys . Burrow said per USA Today

Higgins has recorded 257 catches for 3,684 yards and 24 touchdowns in his NFL career with the Bengals. He missed a chunk of last season due to aggravating his previous hamstring injury.
