Steelers Invite Pitt CB Marquis Williams to Rookie Minicamp

The Pittsburgh Steelers are inviting Pitt cornerback Marquis Williams to their rookie minicamp next week, Brain Batko of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Since he went to Pitt, Williams has practiced just next door for his entire career, dating back to 2018. Williams’ uncle is former Steelers safety Tyrone Carter, so there are connections to Pittsburgh and the Steelers.

Williams measured in at Pitt’s pro day at 5-foot-8 and ran a 4.73 40-yard dash at 176 pounds. He also put up a 34-inch vertical and 9-foot-5-inch broad jump, which will get him this tryout with the Steelers. While he played outside at Pitt, he will have to move to the slot with his size in the NFL, and so that is where he will try to impress on the weekend with Pittsburgh.

Rookie minicamp is always the next step in the process for the Steelers Over a few days in early May, the Steelers will host players to compete for open roster spots.

In addition to tryouts, first-year players and drafted and undrafted rookies can participate. Last year, the Steelers signed running back Alfonzo Graham from Morgan State and outside linebacker Toby Ndukwe from Sam Houston State out of their rookie minicamp tryout class.

The Steelers already started their off-field offseason conditioning for returning players on April 15. The first phase of the program includes meetings, strength and conditioning exercises and injury rehab. And on April 29th, the team added individual and group on-field instruction and walk throughs.

But rookie minicamp will take place in about two weeks, spanning the weekend from May 10th through May 12th. Shortly after that, the team will begin to get into more serious team activities.
